5 Things You Need To Know About Email Marketing In Real Estate

Are you interested in learning about email marketing for real estate?

Email marketing is one of the popular ways to stand out from the competition because it helps you stay top of mind to people you’ve helped buy or sell a home, and it’s something that can truly help your business (and people) when done well.

That’s why, today, I want to talk about email marketing for people in real estate. I’m going to start with some background on myself, why we chose email marketing, and answer some questions others have asked.

Whether you’re a new agent just starting to make your mark on the world, or a seasoned veteran with 30+ years of experience, chances are you can always improve your digital marketing, specifically email marketing!

Email marketing is one of my favorite ways to market to potential clients and keep current clients top of mind as their “go-to” when they think of selling or buying a home. I’m extremely thankful that I can pass the marketing to a local company that is not only affordable but reliable.

Here’s how we started: Late last year, I received an email with the latest market reports on the housing industry. It was helpful because often people will ask what are homes selling for, what is the average price per square foot, and other real estate questions. I was super interested because this information was right at our fingertips. All we needed to do was pass it on to our clients and potential ones.

In doing this, we realized people ask questions on who can you recommend for home repair, the best time of year to plant a garden, how to save on your electricity, and so much more.

Before this, I had heard of the benefits of email marketing for real estate but didn’t know that learning more about email marketing would change our business.

So, I decided to start email marketing with our first email newsletter scheduled for February. Just in time for Valentine’s Day. Learning how to create email newsletters is something outside my sphere of knowledge however finding someone affordable and local has put the wheels in motion to consistently do email marketing.

Email Marketing for real estate: Answers to your top questions

How often do I send an email newsletter?

I asked for our email newsletter to be sent once a month. While some real estate agents send weekly, we knew our resources lent themselves to every month with a goal to send in the first week.

If you have the time and money to send out more than once a month, bi-weekly or weekly are also good options. I would not recommend sending out an email more than once a week.

How did I get started with email marketing to our clients? How do I start email marketing as a beginner?

I’m going to be completely honest with you. When we started email marketing, I had no idea what we were doing.

I knew it would add value to our clients, but I never thought it would be possible for us. I always thought you had to have a ton of people on your email list and be a pro at email marketing in order to be successful with it.

Now, you do have to provide information that is of interest to YOU and your clients. But, if you do, then it’s easy to come up with content that resonates with everyone. Of course, you would want to tell them about information that can help them with buying or selling a home.

If you want to start email marketing in real estate, I recommend getting a local company that specializes in solopreneurs or single business owner companies.

What do I say in my email newsletter?

Each newsletter is designed each month with the holidays and seasons in mind. For February, it’s Valentine’s edition (you can do the same with your real estate newsletter) with information on planning your spring garden, how to decorate in the winter, and a fun Valentine’s recipe. It also includes the usual new listings in your neighborhood, the average sale price, the average price per square ft, and more.

With real estate email marketing, there are many things you can discuss in your newsletter.

How do I make my email newsletters?

Easiest has been Canva. If you’re not familiar with Canva, it’s a free graphic design tool to create newsletters, images, and more! There is a free version along with paid.

What email marketing software is best to use?

As a real estate agent new to email marketing, there are several email marketing software options to choose from. The one we are using is a paid email marketing software called Convertkit. It allows you to easily create forms and segment your customers giving you a clear picture of your audience. If you are doing it yourself, these are things you want to keep in mind. While it’s paid software, they do offer a free version for new creators building their list – free for 300 subscribers.
